OUR COMMUNITY and ORGANIZATION
A FEW WORDS ABOUT US
Welcome to Kampala Archdiocese . Whether you are drawn by faith, history, or the simple desire to explore one of Uganda’s most significant treasure the Uganda Martyrs, we are glad to have you with us.
A METROPOLITAN SEE AT THE HEART OF UGANDA
Kampala Archdiocese is the Metropolitan See for the Roman Catholic Ecclesiastical Province of Kampala in Uganda and was created in 1966 when the Holy See joined together a section of the former Diocese of Kampala which had its headquarters in Nsambya and the former Diocese of Rubaga.
Kampala Archdiocese acts as the Metropolitan See, for the Catholic ecclesiastical province in the central region of Uganda, thus, holds responsibility for four suffragan dioceses within the central region of Uganda. The suffragan dioceses are; Lugazi diocese, Masaka diocese, Kasana-Luweero diocese and Kiyinda Mityana diocese.
As a Metropolitan Archdiocese, our work spans the spiritual, educational, healthcare, and social development sectors. We oversee parishes, schools, hospitals, and pastoral programs that touch the lives of thousands across the region. We are entrusted with preserving the legacy of the Uganda Martyrs, whose witness in 1886 gave the Church in this land its defining character. We carry forward that witness through the daily work of evangelization, service, and community building.

FROM 1886⸻
A LIVING HERITAGE
The story of the Archdiocese of Kampala is inseparable from the story of the Uganda Martyrs. In 1886, a group of young men (pages in the court of the King) chose death over renouncing their faith. Their courage ignited a fire that has never gone out. From that sacrifice grew a Church that now spans the nation, with the Archdiocese of Kampala as its Metropolitan See.
We are also shaped by the missionaries who arrived at Kigungu in 1879, by the generations of priests and religious who built schools and hospitals, and by countless families who passed on the faith through times of joy and trial. Their work forms the foundation upon which we continue to build.

WHAT WE DO
Pastoral Governance
As a Metropolitan Archdiocese, we oversee the spiritual and administrative life of our own parishes and institutions. We also serve as a point of reference within the ecclesiastical province.

Formation and Education
From seminaries that prepare future priests to schools that educate children at every level, we invest in the formation of minds and hearts. Our institutions are places where academic excellence meets faith formation.Healthcare and Social Services
Through hospitals, health centres, and outreach programs, we bring care to communities, especially those in underserved areas. Our commitment to the dignity of every person is expressed in concrete acts of service.

Preserving Our Heritage
The legacy of the Uganda Martyrs is central to our identity. We maintain the shrines at Namugongo, Munyonyo, and other sacred sites as places of prayer, pilgrimage, and historical memory. These are not merely tourist destinations—they are places where the faithful encounter the witness of those who gave their lives for the faith.
